PRLog (Press Release)Feb 15, 2012 -
Hunter Nissan has deep roots in the Hendersonville community. Our own Internet Sales Manager, Kevin Young, was a talented basketball star during the late 70s while playing with the HHS Bearcats. He recently reminisced with local journalist Dean Hensley of the Blue Ridge Times, reflecting on his own nearly undefeated (29-1) season in 1978. This year's team is bringing back the glory of those standout years, standing strong at 20-0 and gunning to become the third Bearcat squad since 78 to finish their regular season standings undefeated.
Young's own team had to go up against a team whose star player Dominique Wilkins ended up becoming one of the most infamous and greatest dunkers in NBA history as a player for the Atlanta Hawks. Wilkins' nickname? "Human Highlight Film." Young remembers his team's opponents, Washington, as a confident, imposing group that left the Bearcats feeling intimidated as they prepared to play.
Kevin Young's memories of coach Jim Pardue and the legacy Pardue left behind can be read at the Blue Ridge Times website:
